The Ministry of Social Development reported the arrest of a beggar in the Irbid Governorate, who was found with JD 778 and had a prior record of begging.

Legal action has been taken against her, and she has been transferred to the proper authorities.

The ministry clarified in a statement to Roya that after reviewing and investigating beggars who are apprehended, it is often found that they are financially capable and engage in begging by exploiting the sympathy of citizens and falsely claiming poverty and illness.

The ministry stressed the importance of public cooperation in combating begging, which it is tackling in collaboration with partner organizations, and advised against assisting beggars.

It emphasized the need to direct aid to charitable organizations that ensure it reaches deserving poor and needy families.

The ministry also noted that it continues its anti-begging efforts through field teams deployed across the Kingdom around the clock, taking legal action against beggars in cooperation with relevant authorities.

Observations regarding beggars can be reported at any time via the hotline 0793344330.
